Unit of Hope- Promotive and Rehabilitative services for differently abled children

The Community Based Rehabilitation needs assessment surveys started in 2006 with the main objective of rehabilitating people with disability and priority on children with disability. The survey is carried out every Tuesday by a team of community health physicians and rehabilitation health workers. The children with disability identified thus are referred to the “Unit of Hope” outreach clinic held every 3rd Friday of every month.

“Unit of Hope” is a multi-speciality team comprising of Paediatrician, Orthopaedic surgeon, Oto-rhino-laryngologists, Physical and Medical Rehabilitation Specialists, Physio/Occupational therapists, psychologist, psychiatrist, special educator, speech therapist  and Medico-social Workers. They assess each beneficiary and an Individual intervention rehabilitation plan is prepared. The plan is put into action with short term goals and long term goals with the final objective of rehabilitation of the child to the optimum extent. The Health Workers have also been trained in identification, referral and follow up of all persons with disabilities (PWDs).  They also follow up the registered PWDs at their homes to ensure that the rehabilitation plan is progressing as per the goals.
