Senior Citizen Health Services

The Senior Citizen Health Service aims to promote, preserve, and maintain the health of older adults in both rural and urban areas of Bangalore. Monthly Rural Elderly Clinics are held across 8 base clinics in and around Mugalur, where faculty trained in Geriatric Medicine rom the Department of Community Health and postgraduate students provide consultations, baseline investigations, and low-cost generic medications. Nearly 2,000 seniors are registered, with about 450 receiving care or follow-up each month.

Between clinic visits, trained Community Health Workers conduct home visits to monitor treatment compliance, identify new health concerns, and encourage unregistered seniors to seek care. Regular health education sessions address issues relevant to healthy ageing.

The Grama Hiriyara Kendra, offers “village senior centres” in three villages. Here, older adults engage in physical activity, prayer, social interaction, purposeful activities, and receive nutritious meals. The program is well received, with senior citizens attending these centers regularly.

The senior citizen health service caters to the old age homes around SJMCH providing preventive, curative and rehabilitative services, by a medical officer.
