Maternal and Child Health clinics
Includes Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child health services, following a fixed day – fixed clinic approach. The MCH clinic provides antenatal, postnatal care services for women with a focus on essential obstetric care, screening for high risk, referral services and health education. This service has been expanded as a Well Woman clinic providing services which include treatment for health problems in females and screening for common cancers in women. The clinic runs every first Thursday of the month where a faculty from Department of Community and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, SJMC visit the CHTC to offer these services. Baseline investigations like hemoglobin, blood group, blood sugar, HIV, HBsAg and VDRL are available for the patients. All pregnant mothers are advised to visit SJMCH for their delivery at a lower cost. High risk pregnancies are referred to SJMCH for further management. Health education for women is provided at every MCH clinic on topics ranging from diet in pregnancy, care in pregnancy, breastfeeding, immunization and care of the newborn.
Immunization and growth monitoring comprise the core of health services for under 5’s, wherein vaccines are received from Sarjapur PHC. Treatment of common childhood ailments and management of malnutrition, including follow-up at home is provided by trained community health workers. MCH activities also include School health appraisals for both government and private schools, Anganwadi health appraisals and supporting government health programs like Pulse polio program, Indradhanush and Measles Rubella Campaign.
The Well woman clinic is also conducted in the UHTC Austin Town on the fourth Thursday of each month, with screening for cervical, breast and oral cancers.
The Under-5 clinic at UHTC Austin Town provides specialized care for children under the age of 5 years in the community. Growth monitoring with identification and home-follow-up of malnutrition cases, management of childhood illness using WHO protocol of Integrated Management of Childhood Illness, and health education to mothers about infant and young child feeding practices is provided at the clinic along with free medicines. Immunization is provided by the Austin town government hospital, next door to the UHC.
