2. Asha Dhwani - Preventive, Promotive and Curative ENT services
Community Based Health Assistants (CBHAs), who deliver services are the anchors for the project in the community. They have been trained by St. John’s Medical College Hospital in basic ear and eye care, audiometry & community interviewing techniques. Outpatient diagnostic, curative and referral services are provided at the Mugalur Community Health and Training Centre on all Mondays at the CHTC by the postgraduates in Community Health, as well as on first Monday of every month by an ENT specialist from SJMCH.
Weekly screening for hearing impairment and curative services for common ear problems is offered at 2 Primary Health Centers by the team of medical officers and CBHAs. The field activities include home visits and community based follow-up of patients.
Hearing and speech therapy, Hearing aids at low cost are the rehabilitation services provided to the beneficiaries. Community awareness activities for the prevention of hearing impairment include street plays, school health education and group discussions with the community members.
