The concentration of VMA in 24 hour urine sample is usually expressed in mg/24H. VMA in randomurine samples corrected to creatinine concentration have been used as a prognostic factor in limited studies. However there is limited literature on comparison of VMA in 24 hour and random urine,both corrected to creatinine concentration. Since 24 hour urine collections can be difficult in paediatric population and certain adults, there is a need to evaluate the same in random sample.Hence this study has been undertaken to compare VMA in 24 hour and random urine sample using-column chromatography and correct to urinary creatinine concentration. If the study shows good correlation in the corrected VMA between the two samples, then random sample VMA corrected to urine creatinine concentration maybe considered as an alternative sample in case of difficult 24-hour collections.
