Effectiveness of Jigsaw Classroom: A Cooperative learning method to facilitate active learning among first year undergraduate students
Project Description
Medical education is transitioning from passive, large-group teaching to active, student-centric, team-based learning approaches. In recent years, there has been increased focus on small group learning and self-directed learning in health education (1). Many methods have been developed to promote active learning across a range of different small groups, like problem-based learning, team-based learning, group assessments, and collaborative projects. All such cooperative learning methods may not have the desired learning benefits, specifically among the first-year undergraduate students due to their inexperience with group work, unclear objectives, and a lack of collaborative skills (2). There is a requirement of an active learning strategy that will help the students to attain competencies as well as allow students to respect team members, share knowledge, develop critical thinking and direct them towards self-directed learning
