A Study of First Trimester Combined Screening for Down’s Syndrome in a Tertiary Care Hospital in South India.
Project Description
reening for Down’s syndrome in the first trimester has substantial advantages over second-trimester screening even when there is no increase in detection. It provides earlier reassurance, and if an affected pregnancy is diagnosed, termination can be carried out with greater safety, less psychological trauma and more discretion. The performance of first trimester screening (FTS) program in the Indian population has not been critically evaluated so far. Therefore, we aimed to understand the determinants and the distribution of the FTS risk in the detection of Down syndrome in Indian population.
