B.Sc. Radiotherapy Technology (B.Sc. RT)
The B.Sc. Radiotherapy Technology program at St. John’s Medical College prepares students to assist in the treatment and management of cancer using radiation-based therapeutic techniques.
Training includes radiation physics, treatment planning support, patient positioning, radiation delivery, and strict adherence to radiation safety protocols. Students work closely with oncologists, medical physicists, and nursing staff to provide comprehensive cancer care.
Radiotheraphy comes under the Department of Radiation Oncology, located on the ground floor of the St. John’s Oncology Centre, commenced its operations in January 2013. We offer expertise and facilities dedicated to providing high-quality and high-precision treatments. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a high-end Linear Accelerator (Elekta® Agility) and the Monaco treatment planning system (TPS) for external beam radiotherapy, both recently upgraded in 2023, along with a High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy unit from Eckert Zeigler®.
Furthermore, we demonstrate our commitment to academic excellence by running the BSc Radiotherapy Technologist course since the year 2018. Our BSc Courses are affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, and our course is recognised by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).
Our department is dedicated to shaping the next generation of Radiation Therapy Technologists through a curriculum rooted in systematic learning and reinforced by intensive practical exposure. We believe that a true master of radiotherapy must not only understand the physics of the beam but also the humanity of the patient sitting beneath it.
With access to modern radiotherapy equipment and treatment planning systems, students gain hands-on experience in clinical oncology services. Graduates are trained to deliver accurate and compassionate care to patients undergoing long-term cancer treatment.
The Allied Health Sciences course offered by St. John’s Medical College (SJMC) is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Karnataka, Bengaluru.
