Background

Lighting a lamp, candle and burning incense sticks are part of the daily rituals in many households around the world. The loose-fitting and flowing inflammable clothes usually worn by women are a major factor to ignition injuries. The burns sustained are usually major burns, hence associated with high mortality rates. The aim of this study was to determine the pattern, depth, extent of burns and percentage of burn admissions due to clothes igniting during rituals and correlating it with the type of fabric worn and outcome in terms of mortality.
