Our Story
St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences (SJNAHS) is a prestigious self-financing private institution located in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Founded in 1963 by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI), it was established with a mission to train healthcare personnel dedicated to serving marginalized and underserved populations. The Academy was dedicated as a memorial to the XXXVIII International Eucharistic Congress held in Bombay in 1964 and named after St. John the Baptist, patron of Pope John XXIII, who was a strong advocate of the Catholic Church’s healthcare initiatives in India.
Spread over a sprawling 132-acre verdant campus in the pleasant climate of Bengaluru—known as the Garden City—SJNAHS encompasses several premier institutions under its umbrella. These include St. John’s Medical College, recognized as one of the best medical colleges in India; a state-of-the-art hospital with 1,350 beds offering comprehensive medical, surgical, and super-specialty care; a top-ranking College of Nursing; and the pioneering St. John’s Research Institute, equipped with modern facilities such as a biorepository. Additionally, the Academy hosts the Institute of Health Care Management and Paramedical Studies, fostering academic and practical excellence across allied health fields.
The institution’s founding CBCI Office for Health Care, established in 1989, functions as the coordinating body for all health-related Church organizations throughout India, reinforcing SJNAHS’s commitment to ethical, accessible, and high-quality healthcare and education. This rich legacy, coupled with its cutting-edge infrastructure and dedicated faculty and staff, positions St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences as a beacon of advanced medical education, patient care, nursing, research, and health sciences management in India.
