Abstract
The etiology of PONV is not fully understood. PONV is multifactorial in etiology and depends on a variety of
factors like, age, gender, previous history of PONV, type and duration of operation, anaesthesia technique and
postoperative care.10So as an anesthesiologist it is essential to understand the mechanism involved in nausea and
vomiting and the available peri-operative treatment options. After Institutional Ethical Committee approval, one
hundred and twenty females aged 18-60yr of ASA I and II who satisfied the inclusion criteria were randomly
allocated into four groups of 30 each by a computer generated random number table. There is statistically
significant difference in incidence of vomiting among the groups over the study period in total (p value is 0.010),
but no significance in the case of nausea among the groups (p value is 0.103).
