Abstract

Kangaroo mother care is promoted as an effective, safe and cost effective alternative to conventional care in resource-limited countries to improve survival, the positive effects of KMC extend well beyond the neonatal period. The benefits include improved growth particularly head circumference, better neurodevelopment and physical organization, reduced stress, better parentchild interactions, reduced hospitalizations, and longer breastfeeding. These benefits have been proven to last at least as long as adolescence.
