World Kidney Day Celebrations 2025 by the Department of Nephrology

Brief:

“A danger foreseen is half avoided”

Second Thursday of every March is celebrated as World Kidney Day. The theme for this year is “ Are your Kidneys OK? Detect early, protect health” emphasising the need for early detection. An early diagnosis can help put in place measures necessary to retard the progression of kidney disease and reduce the brunt of the diseases.

Department of Nephrology, SJMCH celebrated World Kidney day 2025 on 13th of March. Prof and HOD of the Department of Nephrology Dr Prashant G Kedlaya welcomed the gathering and introduced the theme of World Kidney Day.Director Rev Fr Jessudoss Rajamanickam, CMS Dr Varghese, CNS Mrs Sara Oomen were among the dignitaries invited and inaugurated the program. The Director emphasised the need for empathetic and patient oriented care.

The highlights of the event included launch of three new programs by the Department of Nephrology

1. Extension of “Manna” free meal program to Hemodialysis patients

2. Launch of social media handle by the Department of Nephrology

3. Launch of Kidney Transplant Fund- for the patient, by the patient.

Dr Nagasubramaniam, Professor of Urology was felicitated on the occasion as a token of gratitude and celebration of over 100 renal transplant surgeries since 2021. Mrs Roopa Hiremath , transplant coordinator was also felicitated. The program also honored and appreciated Kidney donors and their recipients and deceased donor kidney recipient patients. Notably, Mr.  Hemanth who underwent a successful deceased donor kidney transplant surgery at Department of Nephrology ,SJMCH and is the first person in Karnataka with CKD and HIV positive status was felicitated. Dr Brigadier A Jairam proposed the vote of thanks.The event drew medical and non medical personnel from various departments and concluded with a pledge to take Kidney health and early detection to all strata of the society.
