Centre for Advanced Research (CAR) on Medical Devices Development, Characterization and Validation. A Clinical Trials Approach.
In the medical devices segment, India has seen explosive growth, fuelled by the encouraging start-up ecosystem, availability of skilled resources, low-cost hardware/software and data/communication network and the Medical/health sector with plethora of problems waiting to being tapped with smart/ AI enabled solutions. However, there is a lack of facilities for unbiased characterization, clinical testing and validation hampering the development of medical devices in the country.
This proposed CAR will drive cutting-edge MedTech innovation and development within the medical/clinical environment interfacing with clinicians/patients and facilities at St. John’s Hospital and Research Institute. It will provide an interface for iterative design thinking, developmental change, hardware/software creation/modification etc to drive research within the medical devices domain.
This program will create an enabling environment for novel device/ tools development through interface with clinicians, patients, and facilities to drive innovation and co-generation of IP and also evaluate medical devices through the use of standardized protocols, characterization, testing and validation.
This will also help build capacity for hardware and software fabrication/ modification, test instrumentation, physiological simulation in hardware etc within St. Johns.
